Smart accountants will see that they pay very little tax.

It won't work for the little man though.

This is the problem in Greece. Small wonder the people are so pissed off with austerity.

Whilst not exactly a crApple fan - quite the opposite - I do own a gayPhone.  Only because its the only thing that actually works without me having to let Google finger through my appointments and locations.

But the point of my post, why is it an English custom to hate any successful company. Be that Apple, Sky, Tesco, BT, or anyone else who makes money?

Although I'm struck by the odd exception as well. Take Google, surely on of the most intrusive companies on the planet, despite their tag, they are probably the most evil company on the planet. Yet we love 'em

Deep down, I suspect we're all mindless sheep, spouting what crap we read in our papers....

I'm not sure it is, Daily Fail readers aside. In my mind, what the companies you list have in common is being the "safe bet" option for the hard of thinking. This allows them to make money, as you point out, whilst showing total disdain for their customers, whether it be through overcharging, selling horse as beef, offering dismal quality of service or just plain acting as bastards towards anyone else in their sphere of influence. If that's what corporate business is about these days, I'm happy to support the little guy instead, thanks.

Do we? They've got a good, if not unbiased, search engine, make nice, pretty maps and cat videos for stopping us getting bored, but I think people put up with the evil they "don't do" for the convenience. Hard of thinking, again. It doesn't take much to find alternatives if you would rather not pander to the "We're too big to worry about adhering to the law of the land or even common standards of decency", but the easy option is to become their product. ::)

Agreed. ;)

If companies produce the right product or service, market it well at the at the highest they can get away with right price. They are going to do well. Nobody makes millions of people buy Apple products, they do so as it fulfils a function that they need in their life. Success changes buying a product on merit for many people to buying it as it is fashionable. "It must be good as everybody else is using it!" Although very often it isn't like VHS v Betamax, but volumes win in the end. This is why Apple and to a much smaller extent Samsung are make money out of mobile phone hardware along with Google through their App shop and advertising.

At least 80% of people in all societies are sheeple, they watch it, buy it, do it, because their friends, relatives, neighbours etc do as they are most comfortable living a conformist life quiet life and there is nothing wrong with that. The other 20% are the thinkers, questioners, movers, shakers, excentrics, opinion makers, dissidents, revolutionaries, where they like to do things their way. Being in the 20% does get you and your mouth, thoughts, written words into trouble at times, but it is all good interesting fun!  :y :y :y

Personally, I like seeing wealth creation and success as without it we would all be making all the tools we need out of antlers and stone and living in caves as capitalism and trading has being going on since the beginning of civilization and has been the driver of advancement. :y :y :y
