Looking arround for a newish car (still) missed one with a 24 month warranty coving all mechanical and electrcal systems etc.

Just asked a garage selling a car I have taken a fancy to regards warranty and it comes with a 1 month as standard but I can buy an extended one for 1, 2 or 3 years starting at £299

Allways been wary of the car sales pitches and have heard some horror stories , 1one of which they took the money and only ever took the policy out if the car came back to them with an mechancal issue.

Wonder if anyone had any recomendations of ay companys to consider or to completely avoid.

make sure you read ALL the small print in any so called warranty BEFORE signing anything !!  Most have so many exclusions they are simply not worth the paper they are written on...

This about sums up extended warranties.

The same applies to your fridge......microwave......washing machine....etc..etc.

Totally agree to all replies, same thing with home insurance, they want your premiums they just make it near impossible to make a claim.

Same has above really also check who does the work as most warranty companies have their labour rate.....I had to claim on the warranty on my Vectra that was thrown in for a year BUT the warranty company wanted to use Halfords for the repair so I refused used my own garage paid them and had to claim it back....the hoops I had to jump through were getting stupid in the end they did pay. Another problem you may find is your own garage may not want to deal with warranty company direct as they don't pay garages quick enough

And I agree there is not a 'GOOD' warranty company out there

Was told the warranty work if taken on with the car sellers company can be done at any VAT reg garage with an hourly rate of upto £60 PH.  Covers all mechanical and electrical systems but not the usual service type items like exhausts, belts and brakes etc.

yep I was told that by the dealer but the warranty company had different ideas!!

The other option I have is the "garage repair service" that I have with the AA, costs me a total of £300 for that service plus relay, home start and ticks all other options aprt from euro cover as far as I can remember, but at the moment I would prefer to keep that ongoing with my Elite.  But in all fairness thats the cheaper option available to me.

I will ask for a copy of the warranty agreement before I commit if they are honest enough to tell me who they use.

Brought my first Omega from Cargiant and mistakenly took out their warranty for around £350,within a few months camshaft sensor went.....not covered, then crankshaft sensor went .....not covered,total rip off!  Nothing really wrong with the car in all honesty just those couple of bits. So no problem going back a couple of years later and buying an '06 Astra but on the proviso that we wouldn't take out an extended warranty, and quite frankly the salesman was a total rude nob at the point of the sale and suggested that we were stupid not to take up the offer.Told him to stick his car and the warranty up his jacksie and left,so just be careful because the only person that wins is the person that sells it to you by way of a kick back.It all comes down to reading the T's&C's and not trusting anyone

if you know who the warranty company is ring them and ask...most will say

Bah... if it breaks in the first six months, throw it back at the dealer as not fit for purpose as sold with a pre existing condition, and make the cambelt/wp a condition of purchase contract if required... budget for tyres/brakes/service and you should have most bases covered

Unless you're buying French or Italian, in which case all bets are off
