My train to work this morning was the Penzance to Paddington 'Riviera Sleeper'.

I don't know how  old the engine is but it said 'Brush Traction' on the side. I am guessing 1960's

Yep! ;)

Class 47 .. or maybe the revamped Class 57 version. 'Master' will no doubt confirm! 8)

Bodysnatcher?

I crawled out of the sleeper car at half six to find that this gleaming loco had hauled the sleeper train up from Cornwall. It brightened my day it did.

Ooh now, of anyone fancies a scenic train journey, there's the trip from Pizza to Rome down the west coast of Italy. Stunning. Right along the coast.

Or Zurich to Livigno through the Alps. Much slower but worth a trip on the train to admire the view. Which, if you knew how much I hate train journeys generally, is saying something.

Also if flying in to pizza airport you can see several Herculese type transporters being busy. Very interesting trip.

The only Locos they had were brand spanking new ones so still under warranty (3 years or 1 million miles lol)

Unlike the 1960 bubbles they still run  ;D
They have a load of old tosh they bought from another franchise (West Country/Wales area iirc).

Back on a dmu today, currently at 25mph according to my speed app.

Andy, that looks like 57604 Pendennis Castle.

They call them body snatchers as they were originally a class 47 loco (in the case of the above 47209) built in the early/mid 60's.

What happened was that Brush re-engined them with second hand 2 stroke V12 EMD 645-F3B diesel engines (as this worked out less than a third the price of a new loco at circa £300k).

There are a fair few about as well and virgin used to have a fleet of them named the 'Thunderbirds' with names such as TinTin and Scott Tracy (my lad got to fire TinTin up at Railfest a few years ago) for recovering failed electrics and Pretendoleno drags in north wales.

That's right, I know a few of the people in pres who helped sort out the bubbles which are now very very reliable.......perhaps Arriva Wales should have done the same with the Barry service ones Seth  :y

A very sensible thing to do with Pisa, get there, quickly look around the Italian example of how not to build a tower, then get out again......Pisa is a real shit hole

Is it? Dunno we never bothered and went straight to Rome. I was referring to circling the airport on approach. Hercs everywhere. And one or two of its replacement. C 130 is it?

Yes, as with a few of the Italian airports, they double up as military bases (they do the same in Brasil to),

But yes, Pisa is a dump, had to go quite a few times as we had a development unit based at Pisa University......along with a factory in Naples (another dump), office in Genova, Rome, Latina, Milan and Florence. So loads of Italian travel!
