replace turbo 2.2dti advice
« on: 09 March 2015, 19:56:54 »

Hi seems my turbo is on its way out. Not looking at spending on  car anymore as it's only my backup while my galaxy gets fixed, but I've thought with the turbo looking accessible, it's something I can do if I last my hands on a cheap ish 2nd turbo. Normally I wouldn't bother doing it as they're always tucked under and behind on most engines but this seems handy. So any pointers would be appreciated to help me decide if I'll fix it up or just sell as spares/repairs when the time comes

Thanks

I know nowt about the omega td engines. However looking at images online it's stuffed down the drivers side of the block.

It doesn't look like there's an inter cooler so turbo to inlet pipe off first to give yourself plenty of room. Then are the turbo bolts accessible from up top also?

Is it just a case of remove hoses and oil feed/return, unbolt from the manifold and whip out?

What makes you think it's a turbo as opposed to , say, an actuator problem or similar?

It's an assumption at the moment.  Actuator feels free enough. It's down on power, when on the motorway any hills or going over 65mph the engine light comes on, and I can hear the turbo knocking off. Also when over 2.5k the engine stutters and blue smoke out the back when it does. There is a lot of soot around the turbo too. Apparently all these point to failing turbo. Car still runs enough to get me to and from work etc.

I'm not definitely doing it yet. I'm only going to have the car another few weeks until I get my galaxy fixed. Needs for a 7 seater outweigh preferring the omega.

If I do do it I'll put up pictures
