Autobox woes - any common faults?
« on: 18 March 2015, 21:49:21 »

Hi All

It's time for some major surgery soon I think on my 2001 2.2  :'(

Not only is there an oil leak, a climate control bypass valve to be replaced, a possibly intermittant MAF but the Autobox is playing up - and that's the biggie!

I don't have the funds to get it into my tame mechanic just yet so wondering what stock faults might cause the autobox to fail?

The main EML warning is on (though that may be the MAF), my mechanic reset the codes a while back (to see if it would reset itself as I had to head off for a funeral so time was short) but can't remember what the autobox one was except it was torque converter related.

The autobox isn't auto basically. You can drive it ok manually selecting 1-2-3 but sticking it in D results in it trying to get going from a way too high gear! S & Winter buttons don't illuminate.

Not much info to go on but just wondering if that set of symptoms rings a bell with anyone for a particular fault?

Cheers - Dunc

Four pots are famous for cam sensor upsetting the autos.

Was there a cam sensor code in the engine ecu? If so fix that before doing anything.

No cam sensor related ones. Just MAF & Auto...

You don't always get a code for the cam sensor mate but if it's going wonky it always throws up autobox codes for some reason, whereabouts on Merseyside are you ?

This might be helpful. Autobox on my 3.2 intermittently would drop out of drive over a period of weeks, then reset itself.
Experts said knackered box mate!!
Turned out to be a duff solenoid in the box £50 fix with new fluid.
That was 2 years ago no problems since.
Hope this might help
