Mini gearboxes
« on: 23 March 2015, 11:45:36 »

Hi all.

My daughter has a 2001 Mini Cooper. This morning she couldn't engage any gears. She said the clutch pedal is hard to press and she saw some liquid on the ground.

I thought it sounded like a hydraulic leak or could it be something else?

Can anyone recommend a good garage/mechanic in the Midlands? She lives in Warwick.

The gearbox on the Mini was rebuilt 4 years ago.

I feel bad as I chose the car for her. :-[

Thanks very much. :y

I think she might have hit the gearbox on a speed bump. ::)

If the hydraulic system had emptied I'd expect the clutch pedal to drop to the floor rather than become rock solid.. rock solid to me would imply that the slave is unable to actuate the clutch for some reason (bearing/clutch jammed etc)..

Looking at pictures on the interwebs (I've not been under a new Mini) it looks like it might just be possible to clout the gearbox off a speed cushion without taking out the engine sump, so maybe.. it'd have to be a fair old whack to damage the casing, though, I'd have thought.

Is she attractive & single?  If so I'll go and have a crack at it the car..

*ducks*

Honestly though, if the pedal has gone rock solid I'd be inclined to think it's more a mechanical than hydraulic failure which is going to mean splitting the box off (and a Google images search does not fill me with confidence on that one :( ).. where's MDTM when you need him?

She's very pretty but she's got a boyfriend. I don't think it will last though.

Serek's agreed to have a look at the Mini on Friday.

What's the best way to transport it from Warwick to Huntingdon?

Should I try Shiply?

No. You don't wanna go anywhere near Shipley, miles away.

I dunno, Kate says it won't last..  :P ;D Alternatively if she takes after her mother.. Kate are you single and attractive?

OK, I'll stop now before TB bans me as some kind of sex pest.

Kate, last time I looked there's usually people advertising on eBay to transport cars (make sure they're insured etc!) relatively inexpensively as well..
