Seat bolts
« on: 30 March 2015, 08:24:10 »

Trying to get the seats out and having trouble removing the torx bolts.

Ive tried with an allen key right angled type tool but it keeps slipping and I cant get enough force on it and worried about rounding the head off completely if I continue.

I'm guessing a need a torx socket to do it properly, is this right and does anyone know/recommend which size socket I need.

Thanks

Yep, would advise just getting a good set of torx, they're very handy for a modern car. (ok, by 'modern' I mean a 21 year old design:D)

Thanks for the replies

I managed to twist one about a quarter turn but they must have been well torqued down as i nearly had a prolapse while doing it.  I'll get the torx sockets as suggested.

Thanks

To be honest if you have the right tools - ie the right torx and appropriate socket and ratchet (a dinky 1/4 inch drive one is fine) then they should come fine. If you're trying to do them with an allen key they you will be straining more than the car for sure!  :)

They're not torques up really tight, either -  30nm rings a bell or thereabouts (appreciate that's not accounting for over a decade of age/sticktion)

Whatever you do just get the right tools for the job, don't risk ruining the head of the bolts, otherwise they'll never come out!

Think its a t40 size from memory......but buy a realy good one as cheap ones are crap and the screws are made of crap metal and round off the torx shape in the bolt and then you are in trouble......so buy a good make,,,,make sure the bolt head is clean and not full of crap as the torx bit needs to go in properly otherwise it will slip and round the bolt off...they will be tight as they are factory fitted with lock thread to make sure they dont come out,,,best of luck .. :y

When you get the socket give it a wee tap with a hammer to make sure its firmly seated into the bolt before you turn it, especially if you've been trying something else in it.
