Speaking of tyres
« on: 07 April 2015, 20:52:43 »

Has anyone been brave enough to try these out, Surely at this price they must be made of cheese or hard cheap plastic  :o

Looking on Ebay at similar tyres that would fit my Omega is 225 55 16. They have these Zeta Alventi's at a similar price. With C and C rain and efficiency rating:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tyres-x-4-NEW-225-55-16-ZETA-ALVENTI-99W-XL/321706010952?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D41c5d7e188ff43279ef025af6fa54cbc%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D321668539079&rt=nc

This is what an RX8 forum thought of them, where back wheels would spin, with just a whiff of throttle: :o :o :o

http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=61858

Caveat Emptor.

Personally I would pay a bit extra and go for something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x-Goodyear-EfficientGrip-Performance-225-55-R16-95W-ALL-SIZES-AVAILABLE/331503393554?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D3d9e0ccf71e3450aaf3f7f0270f048d5%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D261833185958&rt=nc

If you look at the B rating efficiency and say it is worth 1% over a C rated tyre (where the difference between an A and G efficiency seems to be around 7.5% (AA Website)) and they last 20,000 miles at 25mpg that is a saving of 800 * 1.20p * 4.56 = £437, (at 0.5% it would still be £218) so for £160 difference in price you are in reality not saving! Not to mention the cheaper tyre's probable propensity to having a magnetic attraction to finding ditches in the wet. ::) :o :o :D :D

The Goodyears at 68db are over twice a quiet over the probable ditch finders at 72db (each 3db halves the noise, where it is a logarithmic scale), so they will probably be much more comfortable on the ears for day-to-day driving. :y

Currently got Goodyears although the F1 Asym 2 front an rear, They've been a decent tyre but I've hardly pushed them to any limits any old tyre probably would have done me, Although the front are due to be replaced before the MOT in May im just casually looking about seeing what's on offer, Doubt i'll be paying Goodyear prices again for the front. The rear however still have around 6.0/5.0 left evenly after one year and 5,000 miles.

I've been running them at 32psi all round with usually two in the car, Can't recall what the going rate was for saloons, Remember someone saying 32psi so stuck with that.

40-41 at the front, 45 at the rear iirc :-\ but they are 18"s and it's an estate, not far off full load pressures...

Tried it at 33psi all round but it felt very squishy when pressing on :D

There are better places than ebay to buy tyres online; looking myself at the moment because I need the winter tyres off. Rear tyres are getting close, so looking for 4 tyres at the moment............... :'( :'(

Blackcircles mid price budget seem reasonable on the Insignia, all things considered... Zetex iirc :-\

When I say mid range budget, their budget tyres seem come in three prices... the ratings for the middle ones generally imply better value than the pricier ones as they're significantly better than the cheapest, but not far off the more expensive option but for less money :y

I am a bit annoyed with myself because I cannot find the site where I bought my Winter Tyres from, they were only around £50, each and have been brilliant, so trawling through to find the same company for an all rounder. Looked at summer tyres, but felt that this is stupid; never had winter and summer tyres before! Town and Country on a Rancho I had some years ago. Mind when I think about it I had a pair of Studded tyres on a MK3 Escort that I had as a company car, years ago; I could make sparks!...... :D :D

That was when I worked for Andrews Heat for Hire who sponsored Russel Brooks, an award winning rally driver. Used to get to drive the duplicate marketing cars though..... :y :y

Goodyear F1 Asam 2 are more expensive compared to the ecos**t ones at £110 per corner fitted, but tyres are something I don't compromise on, as braking and handling are only as good as what the 4 tyre contact spots will let you do, when pressing on!

http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/brands/goodyear/eagle-f1-asymmetric-2

So would rather go for these than the ditch finders.

I'd leave them on then and wouldn't worry about the seasons if they were that cheap!  ;D

ASDA Tyres seem to do good prices and a good selection, although the local tyre shop here once told me that if I saw a good deal online to come and see them because they'd always try to beat it!  ;)
