Cam belt replacement cost
« on: 10 April 2015, 15:34:20 »

Ive had a quote from a mobile mechanic to replace my 2.6 cam belt . He says 4 hours labour + parts . His labour costs are £200 . Is that expensive or can anyone else fit it cheaper  :-\
He did say that all his work is warranted ... ie: if the cam belt or tensioners let go all costs to any damage including labour are covered .

Belt kit is another £120 ish... locking kit is £50-100... so a reasonable saving to be made by doing it yourself if you feel upto it :-\

Four hours is a fair time... think official book time is 3.5, £50 an hour isn't unreasonable either in the grand scheme of things :-\

The mobile mechanic has just replaced both wishbones on my daughters Corsa , checked the car all over an topped everything up for £60 which i thought was reasonable  :-\ He did look at the book time for the Omega belt replacement .

Yes Vx book time is 2.2 hours, which is pretty generous actually.  :y

The important questions to ask him are:

1) Has he done one before

2) Does he have the locking and timing kit
