Which lowered springs.
« on: 08 May 2015, 15:10:19 »

Had the wheels off the 3.2 MV6 today for refurbing, and found a broken rear spring, the suspension is original police and I was thinking maybe it's time to fit new lowered springs. So I need a bit of advice on which would be the best for this particular car.
The 3.2 Elite has Irmy springs and B4's and although it rides OK,it gets hooked up on most speed bumps, also the 3.0 MV6 has Eibach springs and B4's but the ride tends to get a bit uncomfortable on the shite roads around here. So I was wondering has anyone got any better ideas for a set up....as usual all advice gratefully received TIA :y

Feel the need to lower it a bit, just to update it as it seems a bit arse high and the 17's look a bit small with all that space around them :-\

This is for the red MV6 Al,so at the moment the original shocks are still in situ,so I'm not sure about which route to go down.....think it may be a complete change i.e shocks/springs BUT nothing too extreme ::)

Unfortunately....not going to go down the standard straight replacement route,a small amount of lowering is the way I've decided on and although not every ones cuppa, I already have two other cars that have been lowered '' a bit'' and that having a broken spring on a 14 year old car that's done 80.000 miles, I would say that it's time to replace all round and it would be rude not to.So it looks like Eibach springs and B4's unless someone has got a another set up that works for them on a similar car :y

As mentioned elsewhere, the rear won't take more than 20mm lowering from standard before the rear camber settings are too far out of range. So if using 30mm lowering springs, add 10mm to the rear by fitting extra cushion pads from another car or set of springs. They can be had in poly but not sure where from.

For you that only gives 5mm lower than non plod mv6 at the rear, front will be fine at 30 on standard wheels.

Last I heard lowered sports chassis is no longer available from GM, so aftermarket lowering springs are the only option.

I thought the Eibech set to be a bit softer than Irmscher on Pauls old car though...?

That's the setup I have on my 3.2 and I love the way it handles.
