Hi all

Have ordered up some FAI drop links off ebay and just had a look to see how to do them. I know there is a how to on here but found a great youtube clip showing it:

ive never been able to remove both without using heat on at least one nut per side no matter what ive tried

IF the droplink nuts don't undo the first time using a spanner on each side, then don't mess about. Cut the bloody things off with an angle-grinder.
Which is probably just as quick as undoing them properly.
I've just done mine; there's about 20minutes work doing the job in the street.

Trouble is the stud on the ball joint protrudes out the back of the nut. So it rusts. If on the car long enough, they rust bad enough to make... Well, angle grinding much quicker. If you have a small ish angle grinder.

If they don't come off the traditional way I drill the nut and split it. As said, it's as quick as doing it the proper way.

I'll let you know how I get on. Think droplinks have probably been on forever (2002). Gonna soak with plusgas. The thing I like about the clip is that it shows how to get the droplinks in the right position for removal. Something I was unsure of.

Hurrah! Job done and annoying suspension knocks are gone. Interesting selection of droplinks on the car. Driver side 19mm nuts 15mm flats. Passenger side 19mm nuts and 16mm flats. New droplinks are 19mm nuts and 17mm flats.
Couldn't do as suggested in the clip and put the tyre under the wishbones to support as it would have fouled the oil sump and rear of the brake housing. Used an axle stand and a piece of wood. Had to cut the nuts off the driver side but the passenger side undid. Other than that very straightforward.
