Picked up the parts i ordered from vauxhall dealers and had a chat with the parts man . They use to do tc ect but haven't for a few years now . But he did his best to discount the 5/30 oil which was something like £64 down to £14 , he said although its not as good a deal as tc he will do his best to get as much discount as possible for me on a regular basis on anything Very helpful i thought  Asked about the 20 litre drums and he said even when they were tc they never had any orders for the 20 litre ones 
So although i have sorted my supply of oil out from another place i thought he was very helpful in trying his best .

I have just come back from my local VX dealer and just out of interest I asked him to quote me for a 3.0 Ltr exhaust system, £502 Nah!! not for me.

Interestingly while talking about Omega's he was saying they never really had many problems with them . Then i asked about cam cover gaskets and he said a while back vauxhall recommended that the cam covers themselves were to be changed routinely  the actual seals were never a problem

Yes the parts guy at my local dealer told me the same and when he was in the workshops they used to look after Devon and Cornwall Constabulary's Omega's, they changed the covers and gaskets routinely. 

I guess if money is no object!

Yes the parts guy at my local dealer told me the same and when he was in the workshops they used to look after Devon and Cornwall Constabulary's Omega's, they changed the covers and gaskets routinely.

I guess if money is no object! 

Wonder how much the covers are each  But surely if torqued down correctly they would be ok to use again and again

About £220 for a set of 2 including O rings and gaskets. So not that much more really than just the gaskets. 

I wonder if they go out of shape eventually even if they are fitted correctly....    They are plastic after all and subjected to high temperatures and vibrations.

There has to be something in Vx fitting metal covers to the Vectra (which I would think are more expensive to make than plastic ones) which came out a couple of years after the Omega.. perhaps they'd figured out that plastic was a bit .. poor.

Had the metal ones on my V6 Vectra , in 3 years never had any problem with oil leaks so there must be something in it 
We know there not recommended on here for a reason but do the maintenance an i dont see a problem .. prices of metal rocker covers has gone up lately and becoming hard to find .

When I did my headgaskets last year I did consider a new set of camcovers, but found a reasonable set on a scrapper which seemed to do the job. I've now got a slight drip again...   

I expect though that the crankseals are suspect after 230,000 miles.

Only 100.000 behind you .  Just had the front c seal done on mine an it was pishing out oil  Cam seals ok though but on genuine gaskets .. Did you check they were not warped last time ? Wonder if putting them in the oven would flatten them out

I think the term 'warped' that people use on here is misleading to be honest as it give the impression that they are twisted like a piece of wood. 

In my experience they tend to spread outwards making them more of an oval shape, which you would kind expect if they were over tightened.    but as said earlier I wonder if they do this anyway over time.

That might explain why D and C only admitted to owning my first Omega because they were listed on the V5 as being it's first keeper

Two points...

DBW Vectra B/C have plastic cover fitted from new... must be a reason for this...

In Vectra mode, the inlet design is VERY different, this includes the breathers hence not recommending the use of earlier Vectra covers on the Omega...

Of course ignoring the fact that the oil filler is then in an oppsing stupid place so you cannot actually put oil into the engine

What a small world...my cousin was a mechanic, working on D & C Omega's, etc, for years. Just retired....could well have worked on yours, Al
