MrsGK and I both want to come to a meet, only problem is we both work 5 or 6 out of 7, so getting weekends off is tricky.

Shes at pains to show off "her" MV6...  ;D

James, and the rest who have expressed reluctance in attending a meet, some advice...

Turn up, lighten up, crack open a beer or two, chuck some burgers on the barbie and get stuck in. Humour, or the lack of it, can come over in different ways to different people over the internet and people can have very different personalities online and in person. This has often led me to wonder if I'd "fit in" with people I've "met" online, on this forum and others, many of which allow the online banter to get an awful lot more colourful than here.

In all cases, they've turned out to be a great bunch of blokes once we're a few beers in and propping up a bar / tent / kicking tyres / whatever.

In addition, having met people in person, you can appreciate their online offerings in the manner in which they would have been said face to face, which does help.

We are in the position where Newent may or may not happen depending on uptake. It would be a shame if it died a death, as meeting up face to face makes this forum stronger, in my opinion. So, to those undecided, put a foot forward and kill two birds... :y

The impression of cliqueyness stems from the following...

A group of anonymous people sign upto an internet car forum. They gradually get to 'know' each other through that forum... eventually they meet in real at a gathering, such as Guffers cracking cambelt do, where a fair number of people get to actually know each other over the cars, some food and a few beers.

Of all the people attending, there will be a few who get along really well, a few who kind of join in but don't really gel with the people there, and a few who turn up expecting a zero effort free lunch and generally leave disappointed.

Having met someone in person, how you interact with that individual online might well change... such as phrases you use, seemingly odd references, comments that might be taken way out of context if you didn't know how that individual personally...

The perceived 'clique' will be the people in the first category who get along and meet up more frequently, often outside of the forum, and have become friends in the real world.

The point being, unless you make the effort to meet people, then you will always feel like an outsider. It would also be unrealistic to expect everybody to get along, but if you don't try and make an effort then you simply won't know.

I'm with Al on this one,life is what you make it, and a little effort may be needed here and there, and in all honesty since I joined the forum a few years back I have always looked on with a bit of disappointment in the fact that with so many registered ''members'', there only seems to be two or three occasions in the year when there's a chance to meet like minded owners.And let's face it, how many of us attend Jon's (The Red Baron) meet up in Burton ? or the Kent meet.....I can count on one hand actually, and we know who we are. :-X ::)
So,does the 'clique' exist? possibly...perhaps in a milder form or is it more likely that people just can't be bothered to spend a bit of cash or invest a bit of time to make the effort of turning up and socialising.I always look forward to the meets and always make time to be there, and yes I do acknowledge that others have commitments and constraints that don't allow them to be at every meet and that's completely understandable, so I guess it is what it is,and only we can change the situation by getting of our asses and making the effort and acknowledging the input of people like Chris and Tony who work their butts off to bring us the High Wycombe meet (the money's in the post Terbs ;)) and Jon,Josh,Mark and the other guys up and down the country that are interested enough to get a meet arranged.So it's no good bemoaning the fact that the meets  have an unfriendly element to them,because that in truth is not the case, it's up to the individual to man up and mingle and if they won't talk to you then I'll get SWMBO to give them a slap..or two!! OR on second thoughts there are couple of them that seem to enjoy the pain so hold that thought......MAKE THE EFFORT .....USE IT OR LOSE IT!!

Tell me about it...that's why I have got three of the blasted things sat outside. Never had that problem with other cars.
Now need a low loader, so I can get all three to meets ;D ;D
