Good afternoon all, the recline function is broken on the passenger side of my CDX estate. The seats are cloth, heated with manual adjustment except for the height adjustment which is electric. it also folds forward for long load carrying.

The specifics of the issue are that turning the recline wheel causes the outer side of the seat to start reclining, but the inner side doesn't move. Turning the wheel gets progressively harder (as the angle between the two sides increases) and can only be turned about 3/4 turn max. If you let go of the wheel, the seat springs back to the same recline position as it was before you turned the wheel.

What I think has happened is the inner side adjustment mechanism has become detached from the shaft that runs through the seat. The whole lot is kept in place by a mushroom shaped plastic end cap. If I put my fingers between the transmission tunnel and the seat I think I can feel that floating around in the seat mechanism.

My question is, does anyone have one of these end caps available for me to buy from them for beer tokens or an exploded diagram of the seat mechanism so I can try and get a part number?

I tried to convince SWMBO that this is a sign I should swap the interior for a full leather heated one, but she's having none of it . Also, one more question, does the front seat folding forward gismo come as standard on Elite/MV6/other leather interiors? Its one of the most useful features on the car IMHO and I wouldn't want to be without it if I swapped the interior.

Fairly sure that the fully electric seats, in all their forms, don't have the fold-flat facility (which I personally love, and shames many a 'practical' hatchback) Could be well wrong, but suspect that MV6s don't have this feature, either. I know the actual latch/handle changed on the MFL and FL, the older PFL handle dating back to the 80s - no idea if the internal mechanism stayed the same, though.

Given what you're wanting - any Omega passenger seat which you can butcher and chop n change, making one good seat from the two, I'd hope wouldn't be too difficult. Mind you I do see a day where people visiting Billing will be amazed to learn Omegas didn't have leather interiors as standard, as so many have had them retrofitted, cloth/velours are becoming rarer and rarer.

I guess I'll stick with peasant spec then. I definitely value the practicality over the leather. Although I take your point, it won't be long before it becomes a collector's item! The heated aspect is my favourite, wouldn't be without them now. I think I'll get the seat out and see what's what. Maybe run a thread down the middle of the adjustment bar and replace the plastic piece with a bolt and penny washer.

All good fun anyway, keeps me off the streets at night!

Forget if you have to have a post minimum for going in the 'Wanted' section (250?) but worth trying, as there's always cars being broken on here. Again, the volume of people that are always upgrading to leather - don't forget that means, they'll be stripping out perfectly good velour interiors which will be heading for the bin. Right place, right time and all that. Keep searching and you should find a good-as-new seat which you can chop up and use to mend your own - also you may even get some spare heater elements. I'll be getting some myself as one day they'll go and there'll be no spares available!

Any difference if you fold the backrest flat, then back upright? When you do this is it latching correctly? Without the seat infront of me, I cannot visualise how the mechanism works, but would be surprised to find an interlock mechanism on it somewhere...

Fold flat facility is a CDX specific feature, so replacing the seat is only four bolts and a plug. Same if you wish to remove it to investigate the issue

Be aware that they are quite heavy, and remove the key from the ignition before you unplug the seat, and don't reinsert the key until the seat is plugged back in

I didn't realise that the seat heaters were NLA, I'll definitely keep an eye out for one local to me.

AL, no, folding it flat and back again seems to have no effect, TBH I think that the seat is locking just fine. I think the only way to bottom it out is to get the seat out and have a fettle - shouldn't be too hard, just need to find the time!

The heaters aren't really designed to ever be taken out - it's a massive headache to do it, not even 'slide out the old one, slide in a new one' but just something to bear in mind, purely if you're getting a spare seat - be a shame to bind something without realising it's rare/NLS.
