Jacking pads

This probably won't be news to seasoned mechanics but will hopefully help some.

My trolley jack doesn't have one of those fancy rubber pads in the centre to protect the chassis so I have just ordered a hockey puck from eBay for £2.95. Its 75mmx25mm so should be a perfect fit. I have been using off cuts of ply but they split and often need renewing so hopefully this will work better and last longer.

This one is a bit dearer but same thing.

I lost my pad off my big jack, any pictures of this?

Might be worth doing to mine, save making more dents underneath the car!

Yup, used these for a while now. I would always buy "genuine" NHL ones. Reason being the teeth of the jack base bite into them and a friend of mine had one split on him  :o

The saddle on my jack is 100mm and the puck is 75mm so it should slot in without sitting on the teeth  :y

I think that's just a hockey puck with slots cut in it..

Vegum (the name on the side in the first picture) make all the Canadian league hockey pucks, anyway..

As aaron said, its a hockey puck with slots. I could buy two and cut in the slots myself with a grinder and have a second one . You don't need slots on an Omega anyway.   :y

Sorry Jimmy, i wasn't mocking mate. . . But the OOF advice is to use genuine cam cover gaskets and this is bred in to us. . . Some times over zealously. When I saw 'genuine hocke puck' it just made me laugh  :y

Same is true of all car forums I think, some folks get pretty militant about OEM consumables and bits. I'll always fit the proper stuff if it makes a difference, but not going to pay more just for an OEM packet or box with the same stuff inside  8)

Fear not, we preach OEM where over a number of years, its proven to be the only reliable part available, if there are cheaper pattern alternatives (cam belt kits, thermostats etc. etc.), then we promote those heavily over GM
