Poorer standards?
« on: 02 June 2015, 19:09:34 »

Dealership bodyshop that I know has of late been dealing with increasing numbers of warranty claims on the latest Transit vans.Apparently the doors are fowling on the front wings on opening or closing. Is this just poorer standards or in their drive for more profit by moving production abroad have Ford accepted lower standards or indeed have they as Rootes did years ago with the Imp moved production to an area where the workforce have no experience of building vehicles?

Yes I was wondering if that had some bearing on the case.

I remember a couple of blokes laying a patio for me back when the FWD transits first came out.

Turned up in a brand spanking new one. First day, I pointed out a few drips of oil under it. Guy shrugged and said he'd have to book it in for them to have a look under warranty.

On about day 3 I pointed out that it sounded like his big ends were knocking.

On day 4 it put a leg out of bed on the way over. ;D

My 2013 transit (125ps) is absolute crap comared to my previous 2010 (115ps) transit.  Both MWB medium top.  Both RWD.  Both built in the UK as far as I can tell.  How can quality deteriorate so much in 3 years?

I have no experience of the new Transit. Thankfully.

Quality is pretty good on the Ranger aside from one bit of interior plastic (seat side, both Dan and I have snapped the mounts off ours more than once); assembled in Sooth Effrika.

It won't be once you put 15 CWT of builders rubble in the back. ::) ::) :)

They have always been crap build quality and the van of choice is always the first to require welder intervention at an early age (closely followed by Mercs!)

On  an 8 year old, well cared for, 80K mile one that has always lived far from the sea, I had to replace full inner and outer sills, part of rear wheel arch and a length of a centre cross member. It then went on to throw its fuel pump (also common).

It would appear that there is a dam good reason why they moved production away from Southampton......can it actually get worse!
