Quite an old one that.

It comes out well considering what a biased slant it comes from and that they were comparing a 2.9 with a 2.6...........

Actually I thought that too, might have been slightly different if was compared to a 3.0 or 3.2, but still good for a Ford Nut.

I use to have 2.9 Ultima Cosworth a few years back, made a nice noise, but couldn't get my head arround wiether I actually liked it or not.

Also felt very nervious about driving arround in it and not being a member of the AA!

Seen this site before the Scorpio was hideous. But Vauxhall absolutely loved it.

Why?

Granada vs Carlton/Senator sales roughly 50%/50%

Wide Mouth Frog vs Omega sales roughly 20%/80%

The WMF was one of the best Omega adverts there was.

I think the Scorpio was a seriously hideous car. ;D

The Cosworth 24v engine was the only one worth going for too. I remember test driving a (old shape, less hideous) 2.9 12v when my father was changing his car once. Seriously asthmatic old pushrod boat anchor compared to the Senator he eventually bought. 8-)

Had he put it up against a 3.2 I think it would be pretty clear why it was outclassed and on borrowed time. That and the fact that it was doomed by its looks.

Still, a Scorpio 24v graciously donated the limited slip diff that's in my Westfield so maybe it's not all bad.

I have the dubious honour of owning one up until last year, It was butt ugly but was quite pleasant to drive. I had the 2.9 Cosworth engined car and that would really pick up it's coat tails and fly. As a comparison i think the scorpio has the nicer seats but the rest of the cabin the Omega wins, Outside looks wise there is no competition the Omega wins hands down. Performance wise I think there is nothing in it as they are roughly the same weight and power output (this is for the 2.9 vs 3.0) both are very quiet and smooth and good at motorway mile crunching. Overall the better car is the Omega,

I'll agree with that too.

I had a 2ltr Scorpio for a few months, and the drivers seat was far more comfier and fitting than the Omega one...  Even if it was the bottom-end spec Scorpio!

The "original" Granada Scorpio - NOT the WMF - was a very nice motor indeed. Most comfortable seats I've ever sat in, the hatchback made it almost an estate (with the back seats down the loadspace was huge), and it had a lot of toys for its era.

It was easily the best towcar I had ever had, and I honestly thought it was almost unbeatable. When the gearbox gave out (at 180,000 ish miles) I was heartbroken.

By luck I ended up with the old miggy .. and other than the seats, it was a better car all round .. but it was also some 12 years younger !!!

The new miggy is even better .. but so it should be .. if cars hadn't improved between 1987 and 2001 then things would be pretty poor !!

The WMF was simply awful ... 'nuf said.
