Tickover
« on: 23 November 2006, 23:00:03 »

I took a 1.8 Zafira out for a run and noted the MPG at tickover was just 0.1 MPG - My Meega never uses less than 0.3 and sometimes 0.4 MPG.  Is this normal.  Pls have a look at yours tmz.  [smiley=huh.gif]

To make it a controlled test - I turned off heater, air con, heated seats and lights - just sat in the dark with the radio on.

Could this be affected by an air leak?

2.2 DTI - From cold everything off

0.2 for a few seconds, then drops to 0.1 at 800 rpm?

whats your tick over speed, I know mines diesel, but maybe the rpm makes a differance

Any help?

Tickover when cold anywhere from 800 to 1200 rpm - but once butterfly settles down its 7/800 rpm.

The car knows were watching it though - it now idles at 0.2 after the school run via the M6.  :o

With everything off (except the engine! ;D) and the car in neutral, mine is 0.2.  With the car in drive at rest is hovers between 0.2 and 0.3.  With climate on, it is 0.3.  On a hot day with climate working hard, it is 0.4.  Things like heated seats rear window etc. do not seem to make a difference.

Hope that helps.

Hang on... I think I'm missing something. Your cars have an MPG without actually moving? Or do they like move without moving (an Omega that folds space would be awesome IMO).

They ahve a gallons per hour reading when not moving.

The 2.5V6 Manual shows:

0.1 in ECO mode (aircon off)
0.2 with aircon on.

The 3.0V6 estate shows:

0.2 in ECO mode and in Neutral
0.3 in ECO mode and in drive with foot on brake
0.4 with aircon on and in drive with foot on brake (only happened once as the aircon is now not working!)
