LPG upgrade
« on: 25 June 2015, 00:23:46 »

Out of interest, does an LPG upgrade give any improvement in MPG, or is it simply the case that the fuel is cheaper (not forgetting that the tank and LPG add weight to the car).
Thanks

No, it actually gives you worse MPG, but the fuel is so much cheaper that it still saves you about a third of the cost. :y

As a rough guide its about 10 percent down on mpg compared to petrol (about the same again on BHP) but 56p a litre still worth doing.  :y

As above, generally around 10% LPG loss, no improvements.

Given that LPG is half the cost of diesel around here, what ever you get on gas, you would need to double that to get same running costs on diesel.

So just 25 on gas, means you are getting a cost on the wallet of 50mpg  :y

LPG is not an upgrade. It's a tight arses way of saving money while compromising power output.

Not to the extent of buying a 1.4, mind. :-X

I bought the 1.4 for efficiency. I did not buy a 3.2 and strangle it. :P

And, let's face it, for the cost of a decent lpg kit you can buy another omega. A 2.2 to take out on the days you're feeling tight frugal.  ;D

Fixed. :y

Anyway, LPG makes no noticeable difference to performance, unlike downgrading to a 2.2.. or a 1.4.  ;)

That snot green 1.4 would be more efficient on LPG if that's what you really want, but that requires the slightest understanding of anything other than lining the likes of we buy any cars pockets.

...and if installed correctly, obviously, the driver can't tell if it's running on gas or not. Genious. ;D

Buying a high-powered 'gas guzzler' makes financial sense.

Twice as much to run......but three times cheaper to buy. :y

........and you're  driving around in luxury rather in a spartan  tin box. :y

On the odd days that I feel like penny pinching I park up the 3.2 LPG Manual and run around in a 1.4 Tigra which turns around 40 mpg without trying.  :y

Oh, and the Tigra is LPG'ed as well  ;)  ;D

Useful feedback and then some comical banter... Which LPG installer would anyone recommend ?

I also understand that LPG-equipped cars can't go through the Channel tunnel... What's the reason for this ?
