goverment redundancy pay
« on: 25 June 2015, 22:39:55 »

twelve year ago a builder I worked for went into liquidation. at the time I never thought I would get anything as I only had been on the books about 4 mths. though I,d  been labour only for 2yrs. all the lads told me they all had been informed that they were to receive £930. the solicitor dealing with it all rang me to tell me to also put a claim. at the time when I received my payment it was double the amount £1860. Last week I opened a letter from the redundancy payment . it told me that they were sorry but at the time my payment had been calculated wrong. straight away I presumed the wanted money back.  however I was underpaid & they now owe me , +interest & minus tax £ 21. 84p :y

:o Some of the lads at work have just had a (very) longstanding pay dispute settled with the council , the result ? some of them walked away with a cheque for over (gulp) 10K !!  :o

Well...if you don't get your differentials right, and then try to argue about it for years, you (council tax payers) are gonna end up with a big bill. Birmingham, the biggest council in the country, end up with a bill for millions and millions, all because they thought it was okay to pay women less than men for doing the same job.

The compensation should come from the pension funds and sale of assets of the councillors who stood for public office, but didn't know about the equal pay act, imo.  :)
