Car Insurance
« on: 26 June 2015, 12:52:34 »

I recently took out a policy with LV for myself and my daughter. I have just received a letter from them stating that they need to see our driving licences and the V5 for the car.

Has anyone else ever been asked to show these when buying car insurance?

Has the law changed?

I only ever used to show proof of NCD.

Nope, never have - seems very odd. Have you called them about it?

Since the liscence changes insurers seem to have gone a bit bonkers with what they  ask for. I'm half expecting a sample pot to drop through the door along with my next renewal!

Ive had to show copies if both parts of Driving licence for quite a few years now (guessing proof that you have one and any Endorsements declared or not).

As for the V5, they probably want to confirm who is the Registered Keeper of the Vehicle as you have added your Daughter to your Insurance and the car belongs to you and not Her, rather than the otherway around...

Yes I guess you're right. It's such a nuisance though. >:(

I've got no NCD on my Omega but my other insurer still wanted to see the NCD I use on the other car. ::)

I've never shown anything, not even proof of NCD. When I last renewed (changing companies) I was told they may want to see proof of NCD in the event of a claim.

Standard practice for LV. In fact when I sent ours in, they noticed that I had made a mistake on my wife's pass date and got a refund on my premium. Other insurers have asked for NCB, DL etc.

It is a reasonable request though and you can always scan and email them the required documents.

I've just left LV after five years, gone to Aviva. LV never asked for anything, aviva never asked for anything.

If the pot is small be careful what you put in it. ::)

Yeah. Rather makes a mockery of your knowledgeable 'Standard practice for LV' though.  :)
