406 HDI
« on: 14 July 2015, 11:28:51 »

I know a few people here have had a 406 and rate them highly, a few questions....

Car in question is a 2001 on a Y, 406 110 HDi

1) Does not look like this year would have a DPF?
2) If no DPF, re-map looks good modification, up to 145bhp with no issues/changes?
3) Maintenance looks straight forward from youTube videos, oil changes, filters, etc all look simple. Access looks good.
4) Are they generally easy to work on?

I did a Cambelt on one, no issues. 406 Handles like it's on rails, I once got 900 miles to a tank on a run which was over 58mpg

I did that several times with mine when it was 200k plus on the miles,if looked after the engine is bomb proof :y

Mine would do west Cornwall to Folkestone and back on a tankfill at motorway speeds 5 up with luggage and still not down to fuel warning light when I got back.

Does the 406 have the bag of p155 behind the bumper? (No I'm not joking) Lorries use an additive in the diesel called AdBlue, which is refined urine. Some Pug cars have a bag of this hanging behind the bumper. Dealership prices are stupid, eBay provides much better sources for the stuff.

Think 2001 would be far to old for that? AdBlue is quite new?

I had to move a 406 recently, it belong to my grandfather, who sadly passed away last year. I only drove it a short distance, although have driven it before, but everything still works. Climate/Aircon, pulls well enough. It's spotless inside and out, only done 58k. It was left for around 6 months, popped it on charge over-night, next day started straight away.

It just sits in the garage, hardly used. Maybe gets an outing once every 6 weeks or so.

Some froggy diesels do require an additive, but might be Euro 4 and newer, so 2004/5 :-\

Early 110 didn't have a dpf to my knowledge.

I'd love to try the 16v hdi 136!

Pretty bulletproof but dull plastics and unimaginative interior... Very frugal though
