Is a 'mere' 1000 BHP enough to crack 400 MPH?

I doubt it is.

Love him or loathe him-personally I like him-you've got to admire his bottle!Good  luck to him I really hope he's successful.A MotoGP bike will crack 300m.p.h on what?about 240bhp?,so 400 with a 1000bhpshould be achievable. All depends on aerodynamics and power to weight ratio I would imagine. If he can do that then all that's needed is to crack the 1000m.p.h. barrier on 4 wheels.

It`s highly unlikely a MotoGP bike will crack 300mph, even the old bonkers two strokes only just topped 200mph and they were a bit lighter.

I`d say even 250mph would be optimistic.

MotoGP bike top speed record is 217.79mph or 350.5kph by Marquez on his Honda at the Qatar GP at the end of March this year. :y :y :y

Unlike F1 MotoGP bikes are still gradually getting faster. :y :y :y

Good luck to Guy in beating the 400mph record. :y :y :y

Would though a GP bike go at least a little faster if it wasn't running in to the braking area to make the next corner?I'm inclined to believe it would although of course I don't know for certain of course.

Probably not Baza, maybe a bit but not much, bikes hit a aerodynamic wall at around 160 mph and from there on they need a disproportionate amount of power to go a lot faster.

In 91` the FZR1000 could do 172mph on around 140 bhp but it wasn`t until the Hayabusa came around until a bike could top 200mph, only 30mph more but it had about 70bhp more, motoGP bikes have around 240bhp but still only manage around 217mph.

Rumours are that the Ducati and Honda are around 250 to 260bhp these days, which is not unexpected where they were quoted at 240bhp when the class went from 800 to 1000cc. As this and aerodynamics has improved slightly so top speeds have crept up from just over 200mph to 217.

The best straight on the GP calendar is the long start finish one at Mugello and this is the past has held the MotoGP top speed record.

Hence this thing looks nothing like a bike, other than having 2 wheels. There's no power in the world that will make a conventional bike do 400 MPH*, and, if it did, the rider would be shedding limbs all over the place. ;)
