Yes adaptor still available  ;) Thing is im stuck now as i cant get the spare one off the 2.5  :(

Im guessing the only way to get the one off the 2.5 would be to smash the base off and try and save the cap  :-\

No don't smash it.

I used big FO grips on the housing and got it loose. The housing is held in place with a 12mm allen key down the centre. HTH

Sorry I didn't word that very well. I used a big pair of grips on the spinning housing and a socket on the cap. I've managed this 2/3 times now, maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never smashed a housing to replace a filter.

They must be big , not got grips big enough for that unfortunately  :( Could try and wedge something in there but seeing as i shattered the housing cap on the 2.6 i doubt there will be enough grip to hold the base .. ill have a go though but not today as i ran out of swear words .

I'd try one of those chain filter tools, the ones you're supposed to wrap around a spin-on filter. Hold the body tight, or get an assistant to do it, while you loosen the cap. Perhaps put some rubber between the filter tool and the body of the filter, to aid it's grip.

Dim question - can you not spin the whole thing off as one?

To be honest i'd ran out of steam but the whole thing seemed to be turning and not moving adrift .

Try pulling it as you unscrew.

Ah, thinking on, you need the internal bolt to unthread. If you can get a bar in between the housing and the engine block to apply pressure, that might help it, but I think the oil filter strap is more likely to succeed.

Will do  :y If i can get it all off in one piece then should be able to get the cap off in the vice .

Yes was thinking maybe a screwdriver to prise it away and the chain strap on the base of the housing ..

Just be aware that once it starts to spin, a few things happen...

1. It no longer seals.
2. The cap needs removing to either tighten or remove the retaining bolt.
3. For it to spin in the first place, either the retainig lug or the part of the block the lug locates in have failed.
4. Levering against the block has the potential to end in a visit from the scrap man.

Just saying, like.
