Any recommendations on circling pliers?
« on: 18 July 2015, 13:26:13 »

Was in the local hardware store earlier and I nearly purchased a set of draper circlip pliers that have changeable heads to provide different sizes and also the one tool does external and internal clips (forgive my terminology but you know what I mean lol)

However the metal was uber thin and as I'll be using them on bearings I ned something sturdy as I've known those clips to be really hard.

So I didn't buy them.

Is there a good quality / reasonably priced all in one tool or am I better getting a set?

Get a set; the interchangeable tips are hopeless.
The snag is you won't just need a set, but different sizes depending on the circlips you're using.

As you said, for wheel bearing size circlips, large robust pliers are required. They don't work as well on an 8mm throttle shaft!

but there are varying standards of combination circlip pliers. I've a pair of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Circlip-Plier-10-48-INT-EXT-Price-for-1-Each-2928-200-/281693038371?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item419636a723 and in a lot of cases are more than adequate. But obviously wouldn't be big enough for a 6" circlip

Don't go for the machine mart(big enough for a rear wheel bearing circlip) ones they did the job but nearly folded in half under the strain. :(
