Bonnet struts question
« on: 02 August 2015, 19:08:09 »

Hi guys, I replaced boot struts few days ago and it makes a huge difference now. Old ones were deff fubar,  one of them was a dead weight really, other one poor performance.
As for the bonnet....struts hold the weight but I don't get any assistance of them while opening the bonnet. It's not that I can't lift it but shouldn't there be at least some force coming from struts?

The reason I'm asking is they're cheap, 20eur for a pair of boot struts and around 30eur for a pair of boonet struts.
Quite a cheap pattern part and would make some difference IMO.
And are those the same across the range?
Thanks Stan

In theory, facelift Omegas have a different bonnet strut ..... presumably due to the increased weight of the grille

I'd imagine that pattern struts will be strong enough for both pre-facelift & facelift ...... I had a pair of later facelift on my MFL and they worked OK

Your are indeed correct Rob .......

Perhaps I should have said that 'in theory they both need different struts' .........  ;)

Yes Rob, FL , part numbers were taken from the struts under the bonnet - presumably still original - lower part painted in car's paint

If anyone finds decent pattern ones suitable for FL at a good price, I'm all ears :)

2nd hand ones don't seem to be lasting, although they are all obviously 12yrs old now...

AllGerman have them from the OE supplier for £20 each. The only difference is that they don't have GM printed on them; all the other details are identical. Now the bonnet stays open, and doesn't self close on my head.
