ive given my 16 year old son a few lessons on some private land and hes very good.in a couple of weeks hes got 3 lessons booked with a DI on some private land as hes not 17 till September. now theres lots of DIs round here offering good deals eg 6 lessons for 55 pounds another one has 10 lessons for 99 pounds.so as I like to save money[okay iam tight] I thought he could have the cheap lessons than swap to another one with a cheap deal.
so is this a good plan or will he get confused?

The worst part about formal, 1-hour driving lessons is that they are far too short. He will have only just about got himself comfortable with the car and it's time to stop, This process repeats for the next lesson, taking much of the hour recapping and wasting time.
An intensive course whereby he has at least 1/2 a day driving will get him qualified much sooner and I suggest that you take him for such long lessons - right now, he needs experience most of all and providing that YOU don't have any bad driving habits (heaven forfend!) to pass on to him, it will be cost-effective.

That may be a local thing to you, not aware of any DI around here that do it, though guess there must be. Why bother? I taught Master Vamps clutch control and then all the basics, before he went off and had a few lessons with a DI. I think it is the basics that are needed first, which we did, as we did with Big Master Vamps!!! My thoughts have always been, give them the basics, which cost the most to get, and then let a qualified DI finish the off; having 2 kids with first time passes, suggests that my approach is correct.............

I would get someone from the OOF driving academy,to teach your youngster, as whenever there's a thread regarding driving,a few perfect drivers seem to pop up, so they would be my choice,and perhaps a discount

Holy crap! 
I need to move further south! 
My middle child has just turned 17, and just booked him 12 lessons for £260  , and that includes his first on for free and then buy 10 get one free as well!
AFAIR that's the same price we paid for his sister 3 years ago.
I can only let you know the way we play it. Once 17, a few hours with mum/dad, in the local Lidl car park in the dead of night, learning basic clutch control and first gear take off, then a mixture of DI lessons and practise with mum/dad.
Works for us anyway!

I can't see how the instructor can be making any money at all at £100 for 10 lessons if they're an hour long - £10 a lesson probably equates to minimum wage.. do you want you child taught how to drive by a minimum wage jockey?

That's less than I paid when I learnt to drive.... In 1987.

I think I paid £2-odd a lesson ...... partly 'mate's rates' as he was a good friend of my Dad and partly because it was 36 yrs ago!
