Took my cam cover off last week changed it and while taking off the cam sensor notice the wires wasn't in the best of shape so changed that as well. Went to start the car nothing had a mechanic take a look told me it was reading my crank shaft sensor was bad changed that car started but would move about 4 metres then stall had it towed to a garage they thought I had broken a wire now they are saying it could be a bad sensor or the ecu. They say as it's agenuine cam sensor it's more likely to be the ecu and want to send if off to test it. I'm not sure I think it's the cam sensor any thoughts

Yep. Usual resort of a clueless mechanic. Blame the big scary expensive box that I haven't the first clue about.

Was it running normally before you took the cam cover off?

Also, can you read the fault codes stored by the ECU?

It's very likely something you've disturbed, such as the cam sensor wiring.

It was running lovely after I changed the spark plugs I can't read the codes he has checked the wiring all ok he's getting the ecu checked if it turns out to be the sensor he will fit it free of charge.

So the Mechanic can't read codes or doesn't have a simple ODB2 code reader, but he's confident enough to tell you its a possible ECU or Sensor fault and has sent the ECU off to be checked. 

my advice is be very careful here, or you could potentially be throwing a lot of money away and down a very slippery slope.

He did mention a code was being thrown up bad cam sensor signal I think it was. He did say it didn't happen all the time which led them to believe it was a break in a wire my father in law is a retired Vauxhall mechanic and is very dubious how this is going he's convinced as am I its just a dodgy sensor from Vauxhall been a week without a car and there seems to be no end in sight.

I'd be collecting my car from them & pushing it home ...... they don't inspire confidence.

As your car was running OK before you changed the cam sensor I'd try AN Other OE sensor and go from there

Did they buy the sensor or did you? If they bought it I very much doubt that it was a genuine sensor purchased from an actual dealer that they actually had to go to...

Engine ECU faults on Omegas are incredibly rare (unlike some other cars...)
