Where their Lancaster Bomber is in a million Pieces after this happened in May..... http://www.bostonstandard.co.uk/news/local/update-bbmf-s-lancaster-thumper-could-be-out-for-months-after-mid-flight-engine-fire-over-raf-coningsby-but-is-given-get-well-soon-card-from-tattershall-nine-year-old-1-6736053

WOW - What an engine!!!! The sheer size of the thing, we didn't see the slightly well done one that is off for repair but the inspection hatches were open on the other 3 as the engineers were working on them to make sure they didn't go the same way. Hopefully they'll have it back running soon.

I can't remember the spec, but yes, V12. I passed my fitter's course test on a Lanc Merlin by doing the valve and ignition timing. I never thought I would see one again, but a few years later I earned some cash doing a head change for the F/E on a Dan Air York in Nairobi - or was it Kano?, somewhere in Africa anyway. :-\ :y

There was a good feature in Practical Classics about the crew's Classic Cars recently... There's always East Kirby up the road where they have a non-flying Lanc' which does taxi runs - you can get really close when they fire up all four Merlins  :).

You should have gone down the road to East Kirkby. You can have a go inside a Lancaster, I couldn't believe how cramped it was inside and they even get it out and taxi it. What a noise :)

I've had a taxy round in that, very impressive. I thought the Shack was cramped, but the Lanc, wow, to think guys flew to Berlin and back in that. 'Nuff respect. Also it is at a very impressive Air Force memorial museum.:y :y :y
