Y reg manual diesel sport any particular faults/weaknesses to look out for?At this age would it have a DPF?

No DPF ,3 series beemer engine fitted,I have a petrol 75 and quite like it :y

No DPF, but both electric fuel pumps fail and the thermostat can be problematic.

Rover 25/45 diesel used a different engine from the 75/mg zt the engine in the 25/45 was belt driver 75 chain

Loved it and it went like shit of a shovel apparently  :y
Rover 25/45 (and their 200/400 identical twins) used the Rover L series, a great engine in its day, pre common rail.  I had 2 of them, pissed off many an xr3i driver when you chucked soot all over them when beating them away from the lights.

Rover 75 had a BMW derived diesel, not a bad unit, but with all the usual BMW faults on it.

I was under the impression that BMW dropped the 2lt TD, 140bhp donk out of the 3 series in the 45 a few months before the accountants pulled the plug  :-\

Nope, BMW dumped Rover in 2000, and Rover Group continued to use the (then) Powertrain L series in 25 and 45 right up until it went tits up.
