Mark 6 Ford Fiesta
« on: 10 August 2015, 21:05:23 »

In a couple of weeks I am taking delivery of a 2004 Mark 6 Fiesta, as a third car. I don't know anything about them, so thought I would ask here to see if there are any experiences.

Firstly I haven't researched the values that much, but, I'm having it from a work colleague, who has had it from brand new - and because of what is (hopefully) a small starting fault, and the fact she is popping out another baby , has decided it's time to go to the showroom again to get something a bit bigger

It's a 5 door model, and is Ghia spec, which I think is one of the better specs, it has aircon, cd player, ABS/airbags, eleccy windows etc.

It's the 1.6 16v petrol (not sure if Zetec or Duratec??). I drove it for her once, and I have to say it drove very well, I'm not sure if it's just because it's a small car, but it felt really quite quick!

In terms of price she just wants a deposit for her new car, so has said she'll let her go at £500. It seems more than fair to me.

There is one known issue. She regularly moans (and is late for work!) due to the fact she says the car can be hard to start from cold. I think, from what she said, it just turns over but doesn't go (She might be wrong though, she didn't explain it well)

Every time I've gone around to look at the problem, I've not been able to experience it - sods law it starts every time when I go to look at it! So she's fed up of this problem and wants rid. It's not been looked at, at all, by a garage

Apparantly, when it wasn't starting, the dashboard said "EAC FAIL". I've researched this, and it appears to be an issue with the drive by wire system, either the throttle body assembly, throttle position sensor, wiring, etc. Most of the reports talk about going into limp mode whilst driving, and low power. Hers has never done that - once started I believe it goes all day long - it just likes to turn over and not fire, especially when cold.

What I'm getting at, is does anyone know anything about these cars and can give me some pointers?

It is odb2 compliant, but is there anything equivalent to "My Naff Code Reader" etc whereby I could look at live data and more extensive values and such?

I figured it's worth a punt, and would be very grateful for any input.. cheers :y :y

At £500 that's well worth a punt. Good luck with it James!  :y
