best free ad blocking software?
« on: 13 August 2015, 16:24:29 »

I have decided that unwanted videos playing on websites I visit are gobbling up my limited monthly bandwidth. Had to buy 1Gb extra this month for £10!!

What do the gurus recommend please?

Been looking at Google Adblocker or adblock plus. A consideration is how much processor speed the adblocker will gobble up I guess.

why not make flash run only on demand see http://www.androidcentral.com/chrome-disable-flash other browsers similar.  then whenever there is a flash video you have to right mouse click for it to play

Might also be worth getting something like NoScript, as that will allow you to disable all active content on sites unless you explicitly enable it. It's not just advertisements that launch all sorts of unwanted junk these days.

All assuming you use Firefox, of course.

easy to disable flash in firefox http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/why-do-i-have-click-activate-plugins?as=u&utm_source=inproduct if you want to go to extremes eg working on very low bandwidth you can diable images too - then just a placeholder appears for each image and you have to click it to see the image.
