My sky broadband connection is crap
« on: 13 August 2015, 19:28:05 »

It used to slow down to almost unusable speeds at busy times, now it just drops out. Very fickin frustrating.
Tried ringing sky but hung up after waiting 15 minutes on the phone. Fibre not available in this area. >:(

So it's Sky's issue BT's Openreach cable is crap?  ;)

Any ISP would give you similar speeds  :(

What about Virgin cable, do you have that?

Nope, don't have cable in this area.
I personally don't care whose fault it is, I just want a broadband connection that is usable when I want to use it. FFS, we only have two laptops and two iPads, hardly high usage. This story (excuse) about open reach being responsible for sky's shortcomings is becoming tedious. I pay sky for a service and I couldn't give a toss about their subcontractors.

I see new customers can get  the entertainment package, a free TV and free fibre for 12 months for £20 a month. Nice. Muggins will just continue to give them £73 a month and take what I get.

they dont have sub-contractors its openreach that owns the lines and decides where gets upgraded, tunnie is right it doesn't matter who you was with bt/sky/talktalk ect they all have to use the openreach network.

You either live in the middle of nowhere or in an area that hasnt gone through the upgrade yet, tis one of the first things i check when deciding where to live.

The house is only eight years old, so I would have thought Virgin would have had the foresight to cable it, but never mind.
I'm wondering how long it will be before the network is overwhelmed, gotta happen.

As for openreach, they are a division of BT, so no one can tell me that they don't sort BT customers first.

Checked with BT. As Korum inferred, the infrastructure is not in place for them to provide infinity either, so I'd get the same crap service.

You could always move to a BT Fibre location. Most of the Thames Valley has a BT Fibre network and Reading has super fast, which means Reading East has very good Internet connections. :y :y :y

I'm sure CG would welcome you as his new next door neighbour. :y :y :y

ADSL whilst not fast should be stable, give this a go and report back:

That would be pointless. It's ok when it works.

Getting this kind of ADSL problem resolved it a game that you have to play by BTs rules if you want it fixed - that's the first step.

Your buy it from Sky, but it is still BT Openreach that provide the infrastructure. Even if it is an exchange where Sky use LLU to site their own equipment it is still BT Openreach's cable and that is by far the most likely location for a fault. I am just trying to enable you to arm yourself with useful information before you speak with Sky so you can avoid the 'flow chart' call centre process.
