Astra diesel
« on: 20 August 2015, 18:57:36 »

Got a 15 plate one as a hire car in Ireland at the mo, just in case anyone is contemplating one...don't as it's utter, utter shite ! No power , gears are spaced terribly, steering is over sensitive, center console leaves no where for your left leg to move and this particular one pulls to the left for some reason!

Review completed  ;D

Funny you should mention gears, had a 64 plate vivaro hire van dropped off this evening, and it was hit or miss to what gear it was in .

Probably a 1.3 ::)  the 2.0 Biturbo goes rather well... Sis in law has a Gtc one as her company go-cart. Absolutely loves it ;)

Interesting, both the 1.6 and 2.0 are cracking diesel engines in the Astra.......I wonder if it was a poverty spec 1.3

I guess it was a 1.3, loadsa revs and not much happening but once up to speed it was decent enough to cruise in, just jumped back into my 189k 306 hdi and it's much faster but still a shed ;D

I had a hire car in Uk - Passat 2.0 Blue motion. Gave more mpg than that and was thrashed mercilessly (wherever possible).

You guys aren't trying hard enough.

I recently had a 1.6TDi Audi A3 and managed a respectable 28MPG. (Lot's of mountains climbed, in fairness)

Swiftly followed by a 1.2TSi Golf........ 14MPG.

Swiftly after that, a 1.4 Fiat Punto.  I'd love to tell you the MPG, but I hated it that much, I stayed in the Hotel most of the week.

These are not too dissimilar to my experiences, no car in the world is faster than a hire car ;-).
