3.0 Ltr cats.
« on: 24 August 2015, 14:54:43 »

I'm shopping around for a pair of 3.0 Ltr cats, and when ever I put in the cars details for suitability, the the dates come up as 04/94 until 09/2000 and upon checking my car it was registered in 11/2000,and I'm wondering why that 09/2000 date appears to be some sort of cut off point. I thought all 3.0 Ltr engines were the same ...it's making me a bit twitchy about buying them as Serek will be fitting them and I don't want to turn up on the day with misfits.....PS will not be buying gen VX as my ticker won't stand the shock  of asking ''how much'' :o :o ::) PPS these are 'Type approved' and I'm wondering wether that has a bearing on what's happening with the date thing :-\

EPC refers to build date rather than specifically registration date... 09/2000 is probably the official cut off :y

Being plod, there's no reason why it couldn't have sat for a while :y I have the same issue with my 09/2004 registered 3.2... bought some new bump stops for the front struts... Supplier couldn't guarantee their suitability as they only cross referenced from 04/1994 - 06/2003 ;D

YR 2000 was a bit of a funny year where Reg Index in the UK and model types across Europe where all squeezed into one prior to the ODB2 cars for 2001.

I would say Ken, if the Cats are from a 3.0 then the Cats are the same across the years prior to the launch of the 3.2 type Cats, if all that makes sense.

You could still fit the 3.0 cats, you would just need to 'shave the flange' which I'm sure Serek would swiftly do :D

If fitting 3.2 cats to a 3.0 with 3.2 manifolds, you will need blanking plugs for the secondary lambdas :y

Cheers for that Chris, just looking at the price differential....the Type approved 3.0 Ltr cats £75 ish, Type approved 3.2 cats £165 ish. Question is, that is the minimal loss of performance reverting back to 3.0 Ltr cats worth the money saving aspect.?? :-\

Anything built Sept 2000 or later is a 2001 model, thus 2.6/3.2

Fit 3.0L cats to a 3.2 is a performance gain, they allow the engine to breath better, just need to fit two lamda bosses, for the extra lamdas a 3.2 has,
Got 3.0L cats on my 3.2. :y
Also just read the post again, the 3.0L cats need a small piece grinding off, and serek would do that in about as long as its taken me to write this.
So in finishing 3.0L cats will fit 3.2 manifolds, and the exhaust system. :)

In pub figures 100bhp at the wheels, :D

Better acceleration(don't tell young bear), BHP I don't know.

Sounds similar to the effects of a deCAT on a DTI.

Both the 3.2's have new Klarius 3.0 Ltr cats, but in all honesty I haven't noticed any power gains because the 3.2's puts out enough grunt for my own needs, but that's not to say that the engine is working a tad better than GM intended. And it's the same difference for my 3.0 Ltr which has the 3.2 fanimolds fitted, as I've been told they also give a marginal power increase but not sure how these theories came about :-\

Also would like to thank everyone for your advice on this and as biggriffin said read the posts again and have done so and will take his advice and fit the 3.0 Ltr cats to the 3.2 fanimolds and will run it past Serek so that any other bits needed can be ordered :y
