Friend Ali enquired zbout changing a clutch on a Vauxhall Signum. Said he had been quoted £1000, should he scrap the car? Is the Signum FWD? Is the clutch change a big job?
its about 6h labour  , tracking ,and what ever clutch cost maybe £200+vat
6x35+vat labour
25+vat tracking
200+ vat parts maybe cheaper

not even near a grand but different places have different rates
Even my local independent is £45ph, and this is Barnsley.

I hear the same garage charges £30 P/H for cars that are not the colour of demonic projectile vomit. :)
I wouldn't know, my car hasn't needed any work.  ::)

And being wealthy you'll sell it before it does and buy another car.

I wish I had unlimited wealth like you. :y

Unless you refer to the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy I have no idea what your deranged northern mind is thinking. ;)

250bhp is your number which, apparently, is a number I shouldn't concern myself with. My number is 42.....mpg, which you will never have to concern yourself with. :)

I wouldn't have guessed 42 MPG in a million years.

42 BHP yes........but not 42 MPG. :)

Thank you all for advice. Sub frame off job, eh? I know some FWD drive cars with transverse engines allow easy clutch changing, apparently not the Signum. I understand that the lady has got a quote of £700 from another garage and accepted it.

That sounds a lot of money to keep a Signum on the road. How old is the car?

Which petrol engine does it use?

Vauxhall had the perfect system with an inspection plate and "cassette" type clutch change. You could change it in around 30 minutes :y Unfortunately they shelved that a long time ago ::)
