So I'm mulling becoming a 'Born Again Biker'.... Again!      But due to my advanced age I don't fancy a Sports bike this time and think I'll go for a sit up and beg Road/Trail bike like Tunnie's BMW GS. 

The Moto Guzzi Stelvio has caught my eye and I quite like the idea of a big twin.    My gut feeling is that being Italian it'll be tempamental and unreliable, and I should go for a Triumph Tiger, BMW GS or a Jap.    Wadda think fellas?

Thats a lovely looking Guzzi  Ive had kwaks yams and honda , i did consider a Guzzi next but after falling off never had another . I think reliability wise they are pretty good nowadays

Yep. Far better than the Guzzi Le Mans from the seventies.

Best way is to get your arse on them and try it 

When I rang BMW, I asked if I could try a GS. Sure they said, take one for the day. I turned up, they greeted me by name on arrival, with a cup of tea. Let me loose on a GS for a day, the test ride on a brand spankers sold it for me, I bought a second hand one from BMW dealer 

Do same with others, go to main dealers, they will easily let you try a bike for free for the day. 

The GS is so light and nimble given its size, when first on it you think crap, this is heavy. But as soon as you move it, the weight goes. I thread mine through London traffic easily 

GS for me has bags of character with its big fat twin engine, it's not fast, but you can look over cars easily. Unlike sports bikes, having to look under your shoulders, weight on wrists.

I always liked the Yamaha TDM 850 when that came out many moons ago, good torquey motor with instant punch, total opposite of my FZR.

It`s certainly better looking than the Guzzi but I`m not a fan of those air intakes

Sadly, you're not far off the mark there M'lud.    Not so much due to advanced age though, but buggered hips from too much dancing when I was younger!

Sadly, you're not far off the mark there M'lud.    Not so much due to advanced age though, but buggered hips from too much dancing when I was younger! 

The GS is a big bike, it can be hard for some to get on. Height helps, being 6ft5 makes things easier
