Best to source known good ones from breakers.

On a visit to MasterDTM, he kindly gave me a set. Some time ago now  :-[

Many years ago, they were called viscosity treatments, (stp-wynns-redex) then they allowed the motorists to have synthetic oil, so you shouldn't need an oil tweetment,if you cange the oil regularly, it should stay within its viscosity spec.
 mineral oils go out of spec, hence the need for improvers(tweetments)

With the exception of lifter treatment, I would always advise using a good oil and absolutely nothing else. If the engine has issues then no magic potion is going to correct them

So, if one was to try aforementioned gloopy sh*t then it could free up a chunk of carbon and clog strainer?

No very early ones are tad different, but I think all after 1997/8 ish are the same?
