« on: 14 September 2015, 15:10:14 »

2002 Saloon CD

Fed up with weak radio reception so looking to add external aerial in place of existing GPS/car phone nipple on there at the moment

Got a beesting aerial that will do the job but before i pull take everything apart does anyone know what sort of hole is underneath the existing aerial is it a round/square hole and anyone got a rough idea of hole size.

Many thanks

Round hole.

Bee Sting (assuming you talking about a small metal tip type) wont do you any favours, grab your self a proper 1/4 wave wire that's wrapped around a fibreglass rod, VX type as fitted to Omega Estates, Astra, Tigra type ones.

Also if your going down this route run new cable as the GSM phone feed is the wrong impedance for your requirements.

Just to add, most CD's only came with the GSM whip type, if yours does have GPS (Satnav) theres another small guide hole next to the main cable hole that your need to cover up / weather proof some how.

THanks Zirk

Its only one small nipple thing at the back just wasn't sure what is was for, so put gps/satnav as knew it definitely wasn't radio aerial.

Bee sting probably the wrong description as well, It is a VX type aerial similar to the ones on the omega estate about a foot long with wire wrapped round it.

I'm looking to replace all the aerial cable back to the HU.

Theres a cable connector joint at the drivers side footwell which will save you ripping the HU out. ;)

Will it need a power wire for an aerial amplifier or is it just coax from antenna to HU.

Theres an Amp at the rear that is used for the rear screen setup if you want to mod that to fit.
