Runcorn....rough? 
It's an overspill for Liverpool (in the days when the population was actually growing). Miles and miles of 60's type housing. Ie, no local shops (just the mobies) and a big bus lane that runs around the town. It is depressing to say the least.

When I was young you could get a house out there for £10 deposit.

Is ICI,s refinery still in Runcorn? Met a great bloke and his family on hols on Majorca a few years ago and he was from Runcorn and worked at ICI.

I lived in Runcorn for 25 years and left in 1993 to move to wales... Only reason I moved was due to them demolishing a housing estate called " Southgate" which held all dregs of society which then had to be re housed somewhere... Ended up with Rottweiler owning skinheads' as neighbours and didn't feel safe to bring up family so off we went. Ive popped back there several times as some friends never escaped and I have to say the re development in the castlefields area is amazing...
