Corsa c brake / bearing question
« on: 24 September 2015, 14:49:44 »

Getting the lads corsa ready for mot.
The nearside rear was howling at speed so stripped down the back end to have a clean / look.
Finally spun the drum off so I could give it a good clean only to find the bearing is rattling around in the sleeve and is totally breaked  >:(

Looking at the inside (back) of the drum you can see .............

A tin dust cover with a circlip behind it
Am I right that its just a case of

1/.  Removing the tin cover
2/.  Stabbing myself with 2 screwdrivers (my circlip pliers are knackered  >:()  until the clip pops out.
3/.  Sticking the drum in the freezer for a few hours then carefully knocking the bearing out front to rear with a impact socket and lump hammer  :D

4/.  Fitting new bearing is the opposite of the above  :y :y

Must be 20 years since I pulled any drum brakes apart so thought i'd check and see if my grey matter is still working  :D

Also,  looking on ebay at the rear drum kits

They are asking if the car has ABS or not.
What it the physical difference between the 2 kits ?

Sounds about right.

Wouldn't bother with the freezer ..

The drums are different for the ABS models I think has to allow for the speed sensor pick up too. I cant remember exactly as mine isn't a ABS model.

Just a normal bearing there isn't anything too clever about it.

Buy circlip pliers... there cheap as ass from ebay.

Make sure you clean it al up and grease well before putting th bearing back in,

Hope this helps man,

Okay, re packed with grease and built back up so I can at least move it around  :y

Wheel feels much better with no play  :o but now I have the ABS light on  :(
Read the codes and it came up as ................ Incorrect signal left rear (which is the dodgy one)  :(
No wires disconnected but the tin cap on the bearing had a plastic cover stuck to the lid which was damaged so I removed it.

Could this be causing the problem ??

Will be when this new ring turns up next week  ::)  ;D
10 quid out of pocket and every ficker having a giggle at my expense  ::)
The cars going up on stands for a couple of day.
10 quid buys a litre of black chassis paint so just like I did with the omega when I replaced all of the suspension a few months ago, i'm going to wire wheel everything that looks like it could turn into rust and blather it in chassis paint  :y

Should keep me out of mischief for a day or 2  ;D

Thanks for your help bud  :)
