I notice that quite a few new members don't post in the Newbie's Welcome Area. I was thinking that maybe they might be put off by the term Newbie (a bit like being the new kid in the class). Might it be more welcoming if it was simply called New Members Welcome Aea. I know we use Newbie as a bit of a tongue in cheek expression and I'm sure nobody minds the title of Newbie for a couple of weeks, but just a thought......... ::)

I suppose I'm a newbie as I only joined a few weeks ago. I'm not bothered what the forum is called BUT, a big BUT, what about a Newbies guide on how to get around the site.ie an idiots guide for first timers! Also when do you stop being a newbie and become an oldie.

If somebody is prepared to write a guide, that would be really appreciated, as I think that is a very good idea, and one we've thought of before. Alas, the Admins here have not have chance to write one yet.

Newbie has always been a derrogatory term on the interweb, particularly in gaming communities.

It usually gets shortened to noob, or nub though.

It hasn't always been derogatory, in within many communities, still isn't.  It was descriptive, and was tagged to new users so that experience users could 'give them a break' ;)

Alas, in some communities, it has become a problem - not the Newbie, Noob, N00b etc status, but the fact they are inexperienced - as established community members (wrongly) believe they are somehow better.

True. I didn't say I agreed with it being a derrogatory term  :y
