I have a second hand waterpump. Nice and quite, my question is how long will it last on the shelf and should i use it as a spare or can i use it on my next belt change.

Give it a coat of WD40 and pop it in a sealed plastic box... Should last indefinitely :y

no, don't that, will sweat and bearing/impeller will rust, put in a cardboard box, wrapped in grease paper,.
