Non paying ebayer
« on: 28 September 2015, 19:45:28 »

I have recently had my 2004 fiesta mk6 for sale on eBay auction. The auction ended yesterday at £830 which was a price I was satisfied with.

I Messaged The chap who won (quite local too) to say thanks and ask when he'd like to come.

I heard nothing. This was at 1700 yesterday.
I sent another about lunchtime. It's since been 27 hours and no contact.

It surprises me as he has 500+ feedback.

At what point do I assume he is a non payer?

48 hours after time of sale, then open an unpaid item case

This is my thought I don't wish to be unreasonable or pushy... I'm thinking rob is probably right, 48 hrs seems about right? :y

A year back i "sold" my CB550K3 for £1390 on ebay, buyer did not pay,i had his telephone number and eventually got through only for his wife to come on and tell me he had changed his mind! I explained a deal was done but realised it was a no hoper! Sold it later for £990 after losing other bidders who smelt a rat with "winner" dropping out

I used eBay quite a bit in it's early years, but not now. What's the worst thing that can happen to a non payer?

It's full of foockwits these days so I don't really bother, open a case for a day or two then shut it to get your fee's back

To be honest anything can happen. I always think 'well their mother could've just been rushed into hospital' or something. yes, they maybe could just 'not be bothered' and 'get round to it whenever' but I always give it a couple of days. True, on a higher-value item you'd think he's get in touch sooner, but I'd be messaging the second highest bidder to make them aware of the situation, so you've got a plan B.

Sold a car on ebay once only. And yes, the highest bidder never showed, but I messaged the 2nd highest, did it cash, he turned up the next day, and shaking hands and nice. Truth is there's no magic country, state or province called 'ebay' where all the nasty people live. It's the people you walk by in the street every day, there's just as many retarded, mean, grumpy, lazy, arrogant, kind, thoughtful, generous, benevolent, warm, friendly people on ebay as there is in the 'real' world.

No-shows have existed since Caveman Ug promised Caveman Guh two pebbles for his pointy stick and he never paid up. Mind, Caveman Ug was mauled by a sabretoothed tiger earlier that afternoon.  :)

Never sold anything on e-bay but in a lot of ads they put something along the lines of "winning bidder to make contact within X hours/days" but I'd say give them as long as you feel comfy with and then decide how to best proceed from there.
