LPG Install
« on: 14 July 2008, 16:59:08 »

Just out of interest where would you install the LPG tank on an estate?
On the saloons it's sit's nicely at the back of the boot. But on an estate surely it would look pretty naf and be in the way when you drop the seats down.

You can fit a doughnut tank into the spare wheel well in an estate. It's a straightforward install and the only problem is that you then have a spare wheel rattling around in the boot (which you can replace with a tin of tyre weld if pressed for space). Tank capacity will be limited to 60 litres, IIRC.

You could always add a bracket behind the trim somewhere so you can secure the spare in place - and cover it. If it were me, the boot would normally be empty, so I'd not worry about a spare in there.

I went weak at the knees at the prospect of having to change Cam cover gasket. I am tempted to get it done though. The views on here seem to be positive. Is there any loss in power as the 2.2 isn't exactly the best going up long hills?

Agreed, Tin of tyre weld in one of the little compartments in the back and keep the rest of the space clean and tidy.

Estates much better to gas, you don't loose the boot like in saloons.

Doughnut tank in the spare wheel well... you loose no space! :)

Only downside is you have less range (smaller tank)

I've gone for the "across the back" method, after trying to fit one (or two) lengthways.  I'll be happy with the 90 litre tank (£60 off ebay and it's 3/4 full of gas!) when i finish it!  On the bright side, you still have a HUGE boot afterwards, and can still fit long loads in there, just over the tank instead.

I wanted an estate, so i'd still have a huge boot after a big tank..my Mig was always going to be LPG, even before I bought it!
