Been thinking about
« on: 10 October 2015, 20:36:51 »

Buying a motorhome  :) Always fancied the thought of driving away to different resorts with the bonus of all the facilities on board . Quite shocked at the prices of some of them , even the older Talbot ones  :o Anyone had the pleasure of owning one ?
Oh and it would come in handy for the few meets , especially Billing  :)

Other thing is ive seen you can hire very nice ones for about £300 a week which dont seem to bad if you save up once a year  :)

Just don't set the cruise control and wander off into the back to make a coffee as an American did quite a few years ago in his new Winnebago :o It did not end well and in court he claimed it didn't say he couldn't in the owners manual and won his case :D

Grandpa T bless him, wanted one of these, he used to caravan and wanted to get out a bit, not long before he passed away.  :'(

I took him to view a few, as you say bloody expensive things!

I drove one for him as a test drive, damn thing rattled around like a b@stard. It was a £20k newbie one too. Imaging driving a transit, that's full of plates and crap in the back.

Horrible to drive, slow, loud, poor ride, limited on space as a place to use, expensive to buy. Really don't get the point of them.

I tried to persuade him to spend £15k on a very nice Jag or similar, use spare £5k for some bloody good hotels. Enjoy the drive wafting there, then when you get there have a nice room and don't have to empty your own shite afterwards.

Sadly his health took a turn for worse.

I think it would be wise to hire one out for a week first to see if it suits our needs and to see if we can live with the idea of owning one  :y I'd be travelling slowly anyway just like i do in the Omega  :D ;D Its just a nice thought to get up and go without planning months ahead , plus i could live in it when need be  ::) :-X

In what way :o

Engine is pretty potent, but can't think of anything else to recommend one of those... certainly have a look at one, but I defy you to get out of the drivers seat without releasing the handbrake ::)

Incidentally that applies to all Ducato/Boxer/Relay versions of the same chassis ;)

Its just a nice thought to get up and go without planning months ahead.

Campsites still need booking? No worse than a hotel.  :y - lots of b&b's out there or hotels.

I like using Marriott hotels, as they allow same day cancellation, with no charge  :y

I do like camping, but proper camping. Tent in great location, open camp fire, few beers. Very nice. Best to have one with a pub a short walk away for some nice beers and pub grub.

It's also super cheap, couple of quid for a night stay. Equipment is not expensive.

For the cost of renting a motor home, you could have some nice hotels :)

A motor home will be worse on fuel than a 3.2 as well  ;D

I think what you are missing is the appeal of your own portable toilet to a generation that needs to pee every 20 minutes  :-[
