Im sure I saw a test on tv that 2 were worse than none for stability

Not sure on the logic as you would only put chains on 2....although that is normally only briefly

I saw this video a while back, talks about 2 vs 4 winters, seems to back up what you were saying. Although it is sponsored by a tyre site so its clearly in their interest to get 4 winters on your car rather than 2!

I ran a vectra c estate for about 3 years with just winters on the front with no issues.

John.
You're brave :o

Crap tyres on the back with tired shocks and they become so tail happy that they make a Crappy look civilised :D

Crappies are perfectly civilised if you know how to drive them ;)

Sideways, through some boxes, with a bad perm? Am I right?

You forgot the bit about being hot on the tails of "some slag" in a Mk.II Jag. :y

I think you're confusing The Professionals with The Sweeney

HAHA my first tyre thread  ;D

Mrs Omegod does a fair old run to work which includes covers some untreated country roads, I'm considering throwing a couple of winter tyres on 2 spare rims I have for the front end of her Fiesta. Why not 4 ? I'm a tightarse and the rears are pretty much brand new  ;)

Any thoughts? is it worth the bother?

Bad timing, just as you need advice on winter tyres, the OOF Reading East expert is on extended gardening leave. ::) ::) ::) ::)

Having watched the video I'll give it some more thought, what about just putting one on the nearside front ? ;D
