Noticed quite a few BMWs of late blithely sailing through red lights So is this free pass they seem to have the latest in standard fittings or is it an extra cost option?

BMW owners loved to make sudden turns without indicating, causing other drivers to glare at them and shake their heads. But we soon became accustomed to this behaviour and it lost it's impact. To make things worse, Audi and even some pretentious mini drivers started doing the same. Not good if you own a beemer.
So......what's to be done? They needed something even more dangerous and glare-inducing. Jumping red lights! Of course, wonder why they never thought of it sooner.. So back to normal for now but, remember, if you start doing it too, they will have to come up with something else. So behave yourself.

It has never been made clear to me whether it is the car or the BMW driver that has this magic ability to drive normally (ie in their usual reckless manner) through fog, snow and any adverse condiotions imaginable?
I have been given to understand that BMW dealerships insist that potential customers must attend their specialist Prat School before being allowed topurchase any car and to have passed by at least 70% - dick-head level. Of course, those more skilled in Prathood can achieve w*anker-level with 80% and see-you-next-Tuesday level with a 90% pass.
Nobody is Prat enough to achieve 100%!

Drivers around here are getting worse by the day , they never indicate and show little road sense  I dont suppose not indicating is an offence

As said its an optional extra on BMs (Jason I thought all BMs had no indicatore as standard including plods   ), although its now standard on all Audi's.  Honest

My mum used to work in the local police station and was told of a story where a patrol vehicle was caught going through a red light camera on it's blues and it was referred to his supervisor to check the logs.  His supervisor could not find a corresponding call and requested the officer to explain.  Upon asking the officer replied:

"there wasn't any call, I just had to get back to the nick sharpish."
"For what reason?"
"I would rather not say"
"I need to put down a reason for the audit trail"
"Then put down 'Officer had the shits'"

Valuable seconds are wasted waiting at red lights and, as the opposite junction rarely turns green straight away, we squeeze a couple of extra cars through. It means that the person behind us is now at the front of the queue, so they are happy and we are happy.

We may change our mind at the last minute so, rather than risk an accident by tempting someone to pull out in front of us, we take the safe option of making people wait, as they don't know where we are going. In fairness, we don't always know where we are going, so it's much safer this way.

It's the driver, the car is just a machine.

I think that, if I had an Audi with those awful chasing LED indicators that are clearly the new "thing to have" if you're a pushy estate agent, I'd be too embarrassed to use them, so would revert to BMW driving methodology.

Off topic, but I've noticed that these new LED lights on Audi/Merc/BMW no longer use headlight washing systems? 

Guess they are not affected by dirt as much as HID's were?

..or the regs haven't caught up with them yet, and only mandate their requirement specifically for HIDs.

As said before, HIDs were not affected by it either so had no use for them, clearly a decision set by people who had no idea of the physics of light
