We use them for our rubbish, which seems excessively wasteful for the life bags... Also now they cost summat, carriers are a better quality... Certainly the Tescos ones are now a heavier grade

Unfortunately, that was the price the tree hugging Limpdems imposed for their support for one of the coalitions finance bills.

I've used long liet bags for sometime, where Lidl and Aldi have always charged for their bags. I find the woven plastic laundry bags ideal as they are very tough, will hold up to 10-15kg, have a zip to stop the contents from falling out and are cheap to buy on Ebay.

Buying bags is not a problem, anyone who can't afford 6p for the big, strong ones should really be down at the food bank. Trying to remember to actually put them in the car and then take them in with you is the problem. I've got a load in the kitchen and about five in my car already.

I very rarely go shopping in supermarkets , cant stand the places  And for my peneth worth i think they should supply the eco bags free

I wonder if anyone has compared the amount of plastic in a wafer thin carrier bag to that in which a typical supermarket product is encased?

But that wouldn't inconvenience people if they banned it, so the retard tree huggers look elsewhere..

Don't get me started on this one. Carrier bags represent .0003% of all land fill. Personally I re use all my carriers from any thing from freezer storage bags, bin liners to dog poo bags etc. The vast majority of land fill in this country is commercial (70%) I own a small business and the last time I tried to do my bit for the environment I took a load of cardboard to my local waste reception centre only to be informed by the man on the gate that they can not take commercial re cycling and I would have to take it to the next town. I asked him to explain what from a recycling point of view was the difference between domestic and commercial cardboard. He then went into "jobs worth" mode so no joy there then. The next town is     a twenty six mile round trip, chuffing out diesel fumes and burning fossil fuels. To boot I would have to pay a charge to re cycle my waste for the priveledge of being eco friendly. The government  really does need to get it's head out of it's backside if it is really serious about re cycling
