Amazing that people still use these charlatans .

I know we can't all be master mechanics but surely by now people must have heard the horror stories about them

I've always said that I'd not trust a fast fit fitter ie all nation tyre & exhaust chains, to air in my tyres ...... seems I was right.  ;D ;D

Some years ago I had a SD1 and took it to one of their outlets for a new front tyre,on going to pay for it I was "advised" that the exhaust manifold was blowing-they were correct, but I was already aware of the fact-and that the bottom balljoint was totally shot and really needed immediate replacement for safeties sake.I might have been worried enough to go for it if not for the fact that the bottom arm[which incorporated the balljoint had been replaced the day before!!!

How that outfit keeps going god alone knows !!

Simple: they have always spent a lot of money on national advertising; lots of highly visible sites(some were loss making just to prevent competitors!); they always appeared professional even if the staff were incompetent; they were convenient in that you drove in, they had your size tyre/exhaust and you drove away.

The bad points were always extremely aggressive selling-up and a good possibility of crap work.

Track rod... they wear where they screw into the end of the rack or ball joint... Rest of Vectra suspension is pretty bombproof :y

What about the common issue of broken springs.

What about the common issue of broken springs.

Are they that common? I recovered dozens of Fiestas, Lagunas, Mondeos and C3s with broken springs, but never a Vectra.

The common issue of broken springs tends to appear on pot holed roads, or on cars that owners like to bounce on and off pavements. Don't think the type of car matters. I'm 62 and I have never had a broken spring on any car.

Unlike the Mundeyo they are a sensible design, so on the off chance one does fail, it won't drop down the strut and shred the tyre and brake hose ;D The one I had fail, was only discovered during a pad change... had made no notable difference to the way the car drove... ;)
